The Hamburg Münchener Krankenkasse (HMK) was a nationwide substitute fund based in Hamburg . The HMK was founded on October 1, 1927 as the occupational health insurance fund of the General Association of German Employees' Unions and, as a public corporation, was not profit-oriented. In July 2009 the incorporation into the DAK was announced and the takeover was completed on January 1, 2010. The HMK brought in around 300,000 insured persons.
