Hamburg sports medal
The Hamburg Sports Medal was donated in 1927 "for outstanding sporting achievements". Currently (as of 2019) it is awarded annually by the Senate of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg as part of the sports gala .
Awards currently
- 2017: 257 Hamburg athletes who were able to achieve success in national and international championships were honored.
- 2018: This year 334 Hamburg athletes who were successful in national and international championships received the medal.
Previous winners
Medal in gold
- 1954: Josef (Jupp) Posipal (then a soccer player at HSV ), won the first German world championship title with the German national soccer team in 1954 in Bern (Switzerland) .
Medal in silver
- 1966: Uwe Seeler and Willi Schulz (both footballers at HSV at the time) were in the final of the 1966 World Cup with the German national team .
Medal category not known
- 1967: The married couple Elga and Ernst-Jürgen Koch as circumnavigators
