Hamferð is a Faroese band that does Death Doom with Faroese lyrics. The name is the Faroese name for the ghostly apparition of a man who died on the sea.

history

The band was founded in Tórshavn in 2008 and recorded their first demo recordings in autumn 2009. After Hamferð won the band competition Sement the following year , they recorded their first EP , which was released under the title Vilst er síðsta fet . After several appearances in their homeland, the group went on a national tour with Skálmöld in the summer of 2011 through the Faroe Islands and Iceland , followed by the band's first European tour in October, where they played together with Crimfall in the opening act for Týr and Moonsorrow .

In 2012 the band took part in the Wacken Metal Battle and won an appearance at the Wacken Open Air as well as a record deal with Nuclear Blast . Hamferð rejected the latter, however. The debut album Evst was released in 2013 on the Faroese label Tutl . The second album Támsins likam ( Eng . "Nebelgestalt") was released in 2018 by Metal Blade Records . The line-up remained largely unchanged over the years, although in 2014 the bass player changed for the second time and Ísak Petersen (Heljareyga, Synarchy) joined the group. According to singer Aldará, this also had an impact on the development of the sound, as a different bassist was involved in the composition of each release.

During the solar eclipse on March 20, 2015 , the band recorded a video of the title Deyðir varðar. Above the Kvívík Bay on the island of Streymoy you can only see one fixed shot of the singer and two guitarists for six minutes. You can follow the solar eclipse in the sky. The current EP Ódn was released on April 12, 2019 , and a concert recording of the title track was released as a video.

style

The texts are based on the seafaring legends of the Faroese. At Támsins likam , the associated tragic emotions are the main theme. ("Fear, distrust, escapism, despair")
