Hamme-Altarm is the name of a former nature reserve in the Lower Saxon community of Worpswede in the Osterholz district .

The nature reserve with the registration NSG LU 181 was 4.1  hectares . It was largely part of the FFH area “Untere Wümmeniederung, lower Hammeniederung and Teufelsmoor” and the EU bird sanctuary “Hammeniederung”. The area has been under nature protection since June 15, 1990. On April 20, 2017, the newly designated “ Hammeniederung ” nature reserve was opened . The responsible lower nature conservation authority was the district of Osterholz.

The former nature reserve is located between Osterholz-Scharmbeck and Waakhausen in the municipality of Worpswede south of the Hamme . It is separated from this by a dike. The silting old arm of the Hamme should be preserved through the protection. However, the drainage of the Waakhauser polder, in which the former protected area is located, and the lowering of the groundwater level, which was supposed to ensure the usability of the grassland in the polder, has led to the fact that the small water surface of the oxbow lake has disappeared and the oxbow area is only covered by the Hamme penetrating smoke is kept moist. The importance for the bird world has been largely lost.
