The Hammer Point (English for Hammerspitze , in Chile Punta Clothier ) was originally a headland in the northwest of Robert Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . With the retreat of the ice cap from Robert Island at the beginning of the 21st century , Boatin Island was created , which is connected to Robert Island via a tombolo and whose northern end is now Hammer Point.

The first aerial photographs were taken in December 1956 during the Falkland Islands and Dependencies Aerial Survey Expedition (1955–1957). The British Antarctic Survey carried out surveys between 1975 and 1976. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee gave the headland its descriptive name in 1978. The name, which has been valid in Chile since 1962, is derived from the Clothier Harbor . Its namesake is the ship Clothier under Captain Alexander Bunker Clark (1793–1876), which wrecked there on December 7, 1820 and sank.
