The Hammerteich Doberlug-Kirchhain is located on the country road 622 between Doberlug-Kirchhain and Rückersdorf and is considered the oldest pond in Lower Lusatia . It was originally created by mining lawn iron stone for building purposes in the Middle Ages.
history
The name Hammerteich is derived from the use of the pond at that time. Landvogt Heinrich Anselm von Promnitz , owner of the Dobrilugk estate , had the area, which formed a depression and through which the Schacke flows, dammed into a pond between 1612 and 1613 . At that time, the resulting water was used as a reservoir for the operation of a water mill , but also for fish farming. In order to be able to process the lawn iron stone on site, a smelter with a hammer mill was built. However , it was destroyed in the years of the Thirty Years' War . Later rebuilt as a sawmill , the buildings were used by a cloth factory for the manufacture of fabrics until the 20th century. However, the names Hammermühle and Hammerteich have been preserved to this day. On the eastern part of the pond, now separated by the Berlin-Dresden railway line, there was another mill which was known as the Buschmühle. The water, which today is used exclusively for fish production, lies in the Niederlausitzer Heidelandschaft nature park .
