Hanayamata ( Japanese ハ ナ ヤ マ タ ) is a manga by Sō Hamayumiba , which was also adapted as an anime television series. It deals with a group of five students - whose initials make up the title - who are founding a school club for Yosakoi dance.
action
Naru Sekiya ( 関 谷 な る ) is an inconspicuous middle school student who wants to be the protagonist from her fairy tales. One day she meets a girl dancing in the moonlight, who appears to her like a fairy with her blonde hair, and offers her to dance with them. She turns out to be her new classmate, Hana N. Fountainstand ( ハ ナ ・ N ・ フ ォ ン テ ー ン ス タ ン ド , Hana N. Fontēnsutando ), who repeatedly asks Naru to dance Yosakoi with her. However, the very lively Hana is too much for the calm Naru, so she refuses. Hana tries every day to win other students over to her cause, but they are also deterred by Hana's offensive nature. When Naru wants to give her back the Naruko (Yosakoi clapper) that Hana gave her back then, she asks Hana why she is continuing despite the other people's disinterest. Hana tells her that when her family was on vacation in Japan years ago, she saw a Yosakoi festival, so she has now come to Japan from the USA to pursue her dream of the Yosakoi dance and that the most important thing about the Achieving your own happiness is the first step. Naru offers Hana her help in recruiting more members. Hana succeeds in getting her English teacher Sari Tokiwa ( 常 盤 沙 里 ), known as Sally ( サ リ ー ち ゃ ん , Sarī-chan ), as a club supervisor .
Naru asks her friend Tami Nishimikado ( 西 御 門 多 美 ) if she is interested, but she is hesitant because she is afraid that her father, whom she looks up to very much, would not agree. By persuading Naru, however, she takes the courage to speak to him and becomes a member of the Yosakoi Club. Next, Naru's girlfriend Yaya Sasame ( 笹 目 ヤ ヤ ) joins - for the time being only nominally - so that the club can reach the necessary four members. When Yaya's school band did not qualify for an important competition and the other members then disbanded it, Yaya found a new place in the Yosakoi Club. After Tami succeeds in getting her friend Machi Tokiwa ( 常 盤 真 智 ) to reconcile with her sister Sari, she too joins as the last member. The five girls are supported by the shopkeeper for yosakoi supplies Masaru Ōfuna ( 大船 Bedarf ).
