The Hangarder Brunnenpfad is a premium hiking trail in Saarland . It gets its name from the seven fountains that hikers see on this circular hiking trail. Three of these fountains, which are located in the Saar-Palatinate district , were mentioned as early as 1564 in a description by the geographer Tilemann Stella . These are the Frankenborn (Frankenbrunnen), the Kilierborn (Hollerbrunnen) and the Lichtenborn (today Bruderbrunnen). The other fountains were built in the early 20th century.

description

The village fountain in Hangard (Neunkirchen) is the start and finish point of the hiking trail. First it goes uphill and the hiker reaches the sports field of the village. There you hike along a narrow path on the outskirts and follow the Osterbach valley upstream. After about two kilometers, on the Hangarder Brunnenpfad, you will reach the second well, the Comradeship Fountain. After a short descent you reach the Oster valley. Here the path turns east into the valley of the Lautenbach and is identical on this section with the mill path (Ottweiler) . After another kilometer you reach the third well, the Ebertsquelle. Now it follows a side valley of the Lautenbach and the path leads over orchards to the outskirts of Neunkirchen's Münchwies district . Now it goes downhill to the right, you cross the valley and come uphill in the forest to the Heiligenwiese refuge. From here you have a beautiful view of Münchwies. After a kilometer back in the forest, you reach the Stone Man, a relic of a Roman stone of the four gods. Next you hike to the Frankenbrunnen, the fourth fountain on the way. Now the path follows the course of the Bexbach, which it crosses twice and reaches the Karlsbrunnen. A little later the hiker arrives at the Steinberghütte, which is managed on weekends by the Palatinate Forest Association . Remaining in the forest, after a short time you reach the Hollerbrunnen before the path climbs steeply. You reach a clearing where you can relax on the sensory benches located there and enjoy the view. You now follow a path along the old Roman road and then you reach the Bruderbrunnen, the seventh and last well of the path. From there it goes uphill for about 800 meters and you reach the Lichtenkopf, which is 409 meters high and represents the highest point of the path. The view over the entire northern Saarland makes up for the increase. From the Lichtenkopf it goes through three small quarries, past a historic Prussian - Bavarian boundary stone, which still marks the boundary between the district of Neunkirchen and the Saar-Palatinate district, to the Rabbit Rock. Via the gorge path , the hiker reaches the Zimmermannsfels, which consists of Holzer conglomerate and is another highlight of the path. A few meters later you reach the Oster (Blies) and a narrow bank path leads to the Dietzloch spring. A short time later you come to Hangard and reach the Catholic Church and a little later the village fountain, the destination of the hike.
