Munniches Wiese = meadow of the monks , this place was called in the 17th century. The first inhabitants of the place, who came from Wallonia and Luxembourg , adopted this name. Seven families lived here in 1701, and the place grew steadily in the late 19th century, not least because of the nearby coal mines in Wiebelskirchen , Frankenholz and Bexbach .
As part of the regional and administrative reform in Saarland , the previously independent municipality of Münchwies was assigned to the then newly formed town of Neunkirchen on January 1, 1974 .
