The old mining town owes its name to the Prussian Minister of State Friedrich Anton von Heynitz . The Heinitz mine , which is no longer in operation, is also located in Heinitz . It is considered to be the oldest coal mining site in Germany. Already the Celts in the 7th / 6th Century BC Kännelkohle mined in the field of the later Heinitz mine.
