Frankenholz is a district of Bexbach in Saarland . The place is located on the southern slope of the Höcherberg at about 300-450 meters above sea level. The area of the place is 202 ha.

history

In the Middle Ages there was a Wirsbach farm belonging to the Wörschweiler Monastery , which fell into desolation before 1564. In 1697 , Nicolaus Dumont, originally from Wallonia , applied for a farm to be set up in the Frankenholz forest . Six years later, he was given an inheritance letter. In 1741 a pasture was built opposite the neighboring towns, so the farm got its own district . In 1755 the farm was transferred from Pfalz-Zweibrücken to Nassau-Saarbrücken as part of an exchange of territory .

In 1798, after the Peace of Campo Formio , Frankenholz became part of the municipality of Oberbexbach . On May 1, 1816, Frankenholz became part of the Bavarian Rhine District and, as part of the municipality of Oberbexbach, belonged to the canton of Waldmohr in the Homburg district commissioner . In the following years the place belonged to the municipality Oberbexbach-Frankenholz. In 1937 there was a school strike in Frankenholz . On April 1, 1937, the community Höcherberg was re-formed from the previous communities Höchen , Mittelbexbach and Oberbexbach-Frankenholz. It was not until May 1, 1947 that Frankenholz became an independent municipality in the Homburg district when the municipality of Höcherberg was dissolved . This independence ended on January 1, 1974, when the municipality of Frankenholz became a district of the city of Bexbach as part of the Saarland regional and administrative reform .

Population development

Until 1880 the place was dominated by agriculture. After the coal field was opened up by the Frankenholz pit , the number of people living in the area increased by leaps and bounds. Even after the mine was closed in 1959, the population increased, not least because of the settlement of Germans from the Banat and the Batschka .
