On April 1, 1937, the community Höcherberg was re-formed from the previous communities Höchen , Mittelbexbach and Oberbexbach-Frankenholz . It was dissolved on May 1, 1947. The communities Höchen and Mittelbexbach were rebuilt in their place. The communities Frankenholz and Oberbexbach were newly formed.

The community was named after the Höcherberg , a mountain range which, with a height of 518 meters, towers over the town of Bexbach by 250 meters.

The former municipality bordered on Rhineland-Palatinate .

In the course of the regional and administrative reform , which came into force on January 1, 1974, the new city of Bexbach ( Saarpfalz-Kreis , Saarland ) was created. It includes the previous town of Bexbach (until 1955 the community of Mittelbexbach), the places that formed the community of Höcherberg, as well as Niederbexbach and Kleinottweiler . The place Ludwigsthal came to the city of Neunkirchen .
