The Palatinate Forest Association ( PWV for short ) is a hiking club in the former Palatinate (Bavaria) , i. H. the southern part of Rhineland-Palatinate and the Saar -Palatinate district . At the end of 2018 it comprised 200 local groups with over 25,000 members. It is entered in the register of associations of the Ludwigshafen am Rhein district court (VR 40706).
history
On November 27, 1902, the first local group was founded in Ludwigshafen am Rhein . The first chairman was the manufacturer Anton Fasig . After other local groups had formed in the following year, the umbrella organization was founded in 1903. The Palatinate painter Heinrich Strieffler was one of the founding members of the Palatinate Forest Association, which was founded on the initiative of the Ludwigshafen railway official Otto Link . Government director Karl Albrecht von Ritter was elected as the founding chairman. Since 1908, the association has been commemorating places of historical or natural significance through the installation and ongoing maintenance of a total of 306 so-called knight stones. Texts were engraved on sandstone blocks, rock faces, buildings and walls. For more than a century, the Palatinate Forest has owed a large part of its development and infrastructure to the association.
The main office of the Palatinate Forest Association is in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse ; The main chairmen have been Martin Brandl from Rülzheim and Dieter Gröger from Rutsweiler since 2018 and Bernd Wallner from Großfischlingen since 1992 . The association has a 20-person main board and ten districts, maintains a foundation that supports nature conservation and monument preservation projects and is the seat of the relevant regional association, RLP. The journal of the association has been the quarterly publication Palatinate Forest since 1902 . His youth groups are affiliated with the German Wanderjugend .
Tasks and self-image
The association maintains around 100 hiking huts in the Palatinate and Saarpfalz, the so-called Palatinate Forest huts . They are sometimes only on weekends farms , 17 are migrant homes with accommodation facilities for migrant groups. One of the main tasks of the association, a recognized federal nature conservation organization in Rhineland-Palatinate, is the marking of 12,000 km of hiking trails in the Palatinate Forest to guide visitors as well as around 15,000 annual hiking and leisure activities for all ages.
