Hannah Davis (born August 11, 1985 in Adelaide , South Australia ) is an Australian canoeist .

Career

Hannah Davis began kayaking in 1999 at the age of 14 after a talent search from the South Australian Sports Institute.

She took part in her first national kayak championships when she was under 16 (U16) and won bronze in a four-person kayak over 500 meters. In 2001 she took part in the Sydney Youth Olympic Festival. She made her first appearance in the Australian junior team in the following year 2002 and won gold in the two-person kayak and four-person kayak over 500 meters and silver in two-person kayaks over 1000 meters at the Australian Youth Olympic Festival in 2003 . At the National Championships in 2003 she won 3 titles among the under 18s (U18) in single, double and quad kayak and was selected for the Junior World Championships in Japan. 2004 was her first year in the open category, and the following year, 2005, she won the four-man national championships in the four-man kayak and was selected for the national team.

In the same year, she and Lyndsie Fogarty took 13th place in the two-person kayak over 500 meters and 9th place over the short 200-meter distance at the World Championships in Zagreb (Croatia). In 2006 she did not take part in any international championships, but concentrated on her training in order to be prepared for qualifying for the Beijing Olympic Games in 2007. At the Australian Championships in 2007, she became the youngest ever participant to win the 500 meter stretch in a single kayak . She also won the title in the four-person kayak and silver in the two-person kayak over 500 meters each.

Hannah Davis finished sixth in the K4 at the 2007 World Championships in Duisburg with the Australian boat. At the World Cup in Gérardmer , she won silver in a four-person kayak over 500 meters. She was also a member of the four-man kayak crew, which finished 6th over 500 meters at the World Championships and thus qualified for the Olympics. At the Canoe World Cup in Duisburg in 2008, she and Lyndsie Fogarty took third place in a four-person kayak. At the Australian Championships in 2008, she won gold in the boat categories four-seater kayak and, together with Lyndsie Fogarty, in two-seater kayaks over 500 meters each, cementing her position in the Olympic team for the Beijing Games.

At the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 she won a bronze medal in a four-man kayak over 500 m, in a two-man she was sixth with Lyndsie Fogarty.
