Hannes Heide (born October 17, 1966 in Bad Ischl ) is an Austrian politician of the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ). From 2007 to the end of 2019 he was mayor of the town of Bad Ischl. In the European elections in Austria 2019 , he ran as Upper Austrian SPÖ top candidate in fifth place on the list. He has been a member of the European Parliament since July 2, 2019 .

Life

Hannes Heide attended the Bundesgymnasium and Bundesrealgymnasium (BG / BRG) Bad Ischl. Among other things, he worked as a PR consultant and tour manager for Hubert von Goisern . From 1994 to 2003 he was managing director of the Bad Ischl cultural platform, from 2001 to 2012 managing director of Lehartheater GesmbH, where he has also been a partner since 2001.

Since 2008 he has been president of the Lehár Festival Bad Ischl association . Since 2008 he has been chairman of the supervisory board of Katrin-Seilbahn GmbH and a member of the supervisory board of OÖ Thermenholding GmbH, since 2009 a board member of Sparkasse Bad Ischl private foundation and chairman of the supervisory board of Immobilien Bad Ischl GmbH. In 2009 he became a member of the Supervisory Board of Sparkasse Salzkammergut AG, of which he has been Deputy Chairman since 2012.

From 2003 to 2007 he was city councilor for culture and youth in Bad Ischl, and in 2007 he was elected mayor of the city. From 2007 to 2015 he was also chairman of the urban development committee. As Mayor of Bad Ischl, Heide was elected Director and Member of the Board of the international League of Historical Cities (" League of Historical Cities ").

In the European elections in Austria 2019 , he ran as Upper Austrian SPÖ top candidate in fifth place on the list . With the constituent session of the 9th European Parliament on July 2, 2019, he moved into the European Parliament as a member. In the 9th electoral term, Heide, who initiated Bad Ischl and Emily Salzkammergut's successful application for European Capital of Culture 2024, is a full member of the Committee for Culture and Education (CULT) and a deputy member of the Committee for Regional Development (REGI) and the committee for budgetary control (CONT).

On December 11, 2019, he announced his retirement as mayor at the end of 2019. On January 2, 2020, his partner, City Councilor Ines Schiller, was elected by the local council as his successor. In February 2020, Elisabeth Feichtinger was elected as his successor as chairwoman of the association of municipalities in the Gmunden district.
