Hanns-Christoph Nägerl

Hanns-Christoph Nägerl (born February 24, 1967 in Göttingen ) is a German experimental physicist . Since 2011 he has been a full professor for experimental physics at the University of Innsbruck . In 2017 he was awarded the Wittgenstein Prize , which is endowed with 1.5 million euros.

Life

Hanns-Christoph Nägerl studied physics at the University of Göttingen from 1987 , graduating in 1994 with a diploma. He then began studying for a doctorate in Göttingen, and in 1996 he followed Rainer Blatt to Innsbruck , where he obtained his doctorate in 1998 . He was a postdoctoral fellow at the California Institute of Technology until 2000 , after which he returned to Innsbruck as an assistant at the Institute for Experimental Physics, where he completed his habilitation in 2006 and was appointed full professor for experimental physics in October 2011.

In 2008 he was one of the founding members of the Young Academy or Young Curia at the Austrian Academy of Sciences . In 2016 he took part in the Science Slam Innsbruck with a lecture on bosons and fermions .

In his scientific work, among other things, he deals with the research of quantum wires , superconductivity , quantum gases and quantum many-body systems.
