Hanns Alexander (medical doctor)
Hanns Alexander (born November 29, 1881 ; † April 22, 1955 ) was a German physician and researcher in the field of tuberculosis .
Career
Alexander was a student of Carl Flügge . During his studies he became a member of the Macaria Breslau country team . For many years he was the chief physician of the sanatorium for tuberculosis patients in Agra (Ticino), the so-called German House , and initiated the decline of the institution with a National Socialist orientation. Alexander had distinguished himself not only as a lung specialist, but also as a committed National Socialist and ensured that a local branch of the NSDAP was established in Agra from 1935 , that the sanatorium hoisted the swastika flag and a portrait of Adolf Hitler hung in the library .
After the end of the Second World War he was head of the Lower Saxony State Screen Image Office in Hanover.
He published numerous manuals and textbooks on lung diagnostics. In 1952 he was awarded the Cross of Merit (Steckkreuz) of the Federal Republic of Germany, in 1955 he received the Great Cross of Merit.
The writer Sven Stolpe (1905–1996) spent 1927/28 in a sanatorium in the Deutsches Haus in Agra and gave the head physician Hanns Alexander the pseudonym Prof. Lautensack in his work “In the waiting room of death” .
