Hanns A. Brütsch

Hanns Anton Brütsch (born October 11, 1916 in Basel ; † November 9, 1997 in Zug ) was a Swiss architect . He is considered to be one of the innovators of modern church building.

Life

Brütsch was a son of the architect Ferdinand Brütsch-Cron, who worked as a leading architect at the general contractor Preiswerk & Co. AG, Basel , u. a. was responsible for the construction of the editorial office for Basler Nachrichten and the construction of the Rhine bridge in Kleinbasel .

After secondary school, Brütsch began his training in 1934 with an apprenticeship as a structural draftsman with the architects Franz Bräuning, Hans Leu and Arthur Dürig . After graduating in 1937, he went to the Basel Hermann Baur , with whom he worked until 1944. In addition, he attended lectures at the architecture department of the ETH Zurich with Otto R. Salvisberg , Hans Hofmann and William Dunkel for two years . He then went to Lausanne, where William Vetter and Jean-Pierre Vouga worked together to plan the cantonal hospital. In 1945 he moved to Zug and began to work independently as an architect in partnership with Alois Stadler (1890–1977). In 1953 he was accepted into the Association of Swiss Architects. From 1958 Brütsch was the sole owner of his architecture office until he took in Edwin A. Bernet (* 1936) in 1969. In 1986 he retired from the office.

During his activity, Brütsch won twenty first prizes in regional and national competitions for public buildings such as churches, schools and hospitals. As a judge and individual expert, he was active in commissions and juries. Brütsch was u. a. Member and president of the Zuger Bauforum, as well as jury president and board of trustees of the national register for architects. He was also one of the co-founders of the Zuger Kunstgesellschaft.

Hanns Anton Brütsch lived in Zug until his death in November 1997. Since 1945 he was married to Marlis Brütsch-Giger. They had four children together.
