Hanns Fischer (born May 27, 1928 in Nuremberg ; † August 6, 1968 ) was a German professor for German medieval studies at the University of Tübingen .

Life

From 1947 Hanns Fischer studied German and classical philology for five semesters at the University of Heidelberg . In 1950 he moved to the University of Tübingen and later to Munich. After his state examination for teaching in 1952, he completed his legal clerkship . In 1953 he received his doctorate with his knitting studies , was a scientific assistant to Hugo Kuhn and was involved in the rebuilding of the German seminar in Munich, especially the library. After his habilitation in 1960, he received a call to the University of Tübingen as full professor for older German language and literature in 1963 . In 1967 he turned down an offer at the University of Hamburg . In 1968 Hanns Fischer had a fatal accident in the Swiss Alps.

research

Fischer systematically researched late medieval literature, and Fischer's work and work around fairy poetry is particularly important . Here he carried out basic research; in his monograph Studies on German Fairy Poetry , published in 1968, the genus of fairy tales , formal descriptions, and their inclusion in main categories and traditions were systematically described for the first time, and the entire epoch was examined for the first time. His basic research had a great influence on other areas of Germanistic late medieval research: with his self-image as a historian, he clearly separated the diversity of the novelistic texts into independent genres. He was a profound connoisseur and lover of medieval manuscripts and contributed to the creation of the Munich catalog of medieval manuscripts.
