Hans-Bodo Bertram

Hans-Bodo Bertram (* 4. November 1941 in Innsbruck ) is a former German diplomat , among others between 1995 and 1998 Head of the Cultural Department of the Foreign Office , 1999-2001 Ambassador to Brazil and most recently between 2001 and 2006 Ambassador to Portugal was .

Life

After graduating from high school, Bertram began studying politics and law and graduated with the First State Examination and the Second State Examination. In 1971 he completed his doctorate as Dr. jur. at the Law Faculty of the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt am Main with the dissertation Official and municipal organizational acts and their classification in the legal protection system . In 1972 he entered the higher foreign service and was first secretary at the embassy in the People's Republic of China from 1975 to 1978 and at the embassy in Argentina from 1979 to 1981 . After his first assignment as counselor and legal and consular consultant at the embassy in the Soviet Union between 1981 and 1984 as well as in the Foreign Office, he was again head of the cultural department at the embassy in the embassy in the Soviet Union from 1988 to 1991, before joining the embassy in 1993 was seconded to the Federal Chancellery .

In 1995 Bertram was appointed ministerial director, replaced Lothar Wittmann as head of the cultural department of the Foreign Office and held this position until 1998, when Albert Spiegel took over his position. He himself became Ambassador to Brazil in 1999 as the successor to Claus-Jürgen Duisberg and remained in this position until he was replaced by Uwe Kaestner in 2001. Most recently, in October 2001, he succeeded Wilfried Richter as Ambassador to Portugal . He held this position until he retired in 2006 and was then replaced by Joachim Broudré-Gröger . He was the 2006 Grand Cross of the Order of Prince Henry awarded .
