History and description
The Hans Busch Institute was named after the physicist Hans Busch . The building was built between 1969 and 1973 according to plans by the architects Ernst Neufert and Wolfgang Rösel .
The ensemble of buildings was built on a cleared area of Darmstadt's old town that was destroyed in World War II . The electrical engineering and information technology department resides in the building . The Bauhaus- style building has been a listed building since 2014 .
In the 2010s, the building was renovated in accordance with a listed building. The architects Eßmann, Gärtner and Nieper planned the conversion and renovation. The construction project was completed in 2016. The appearance of the building was largely preserved.
Typical style elements are:
- horizontally structured yellow clinker brick facade
- Flat roof on the institute building
- extremely thin, wave-shaped roof in prestressed concrete shell construction on the south-eastern wing of the building
- Inside, gray concrete , smooth white plastered walls and oak wood dominate
On the occasion of the completion of the renovation of the Hans Busch Institute , an “Open House ” took place on the “Architecture Day”.
