Hans-Christoph Pape

Hans-Christoph Pape (* 1962 ) is a German surgeon , Director of the Clinic for Traumatology and Professor at the University Hospital Zurich since February 2017 . In particular, his research on the topics of multiple trauma , pelvic fractures and severe joint injuries helped him to achieve a high level of international recognition. From 2005 to 2009 he headed the trauma surgery department at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center , Pittsburgh, USA. From 2009 to 2016 he was head of the Clinic for Trauma and Reconstructive Surgery at the RWTH Aachen University Clinic . He has also been adjunct again since March 2018. Professor at the University of Pittsburgh.

Life

Pape studied human medicine at the Hannover Medical School from 1981 to 1988 and then trained as a specialist in surgery and trauma surgery from 1989 to 1995 . He received his trauma surgery training from Harald Tscherne . During this time he conducted intensive research on the topics of multiple trauma, pelvic fractures and severe joint injuries and completed his habilitation in this area. In 2000 he was appointed professor for trauma surgery at the Hannover Medical School. From 2003 to 2005 he was visiting professor at Massachusetts General Hospital , Mc Gill University in Montreal , the University of Colorado Denver , the University of Alabama and the University of Texas, among others . From 2005 to 2009 he headed the trauma surgery department at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Pittsburgh, USA. Since 2009 he has been head of the Clinic for Trauma and Reconstructive Surgery at the RWTH Aachen University Hospital. In November 2016 he was elected to succeed Hans-Peter Simmen as Director of the Clinic for Trauma Surgery at the University Hospital Zurich and as Full Professor for Traumatology of the Musculoskeletal System at the Medical Faculty of the University of Zurich . He took office on February 1, 2017.

Pape is a specialist in surgery, trauma surgery, orthopedics and trauma surgery and has both European and US medical specialists (Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, MD 427157). He also has the additional qualifications in rescue medicine and physical therapy . He is authorized to train doctors in the fields of orthopedics and trauma surgery, special trauma surgery and physical therapy. Pape is the lead author of over 90 and co-author of over 400 scientific articles. His h-index is 35.2, his Researchgate score is 49.78.

Hans-Christoph Pape has been elected head of the science committee of the German Society for Trauma Surgery (DGU) for the period 2015 to 2018 . He was also elected President of the European Society of Trauma and Emergency Surgery (ESTES) for the period 2015/2016. He also heads the trauma group of the Société Internationale de Chirurgie Orthopédique et de Traumatologie (SICOT). He is also a member of the founding committee of the Orthopedic Trauma Association (OTA).
