Hans-Georg Ponesky (born July 27, 1933 in Dresden ; † July 30, 2016 in Spain ) was a German show master.

Life

After starting out in radio in the GDR (radio), Ponesky soon reached a top position in German television . For many years in a row, the readers of the program guide FF voted him “ TV Favorite of the Year”. One of the highlights of his career was the big surprise show " With the Heart ". The program first ran on October 7, 1964, the 15th  anniversary of the founding of the GDR , and then often on important festive days. It was supposed to overshadow everything that had gone before and had a clear political mandate.

Michael Reufsteck wrote:

“The members of state institutions in the GDR should be shown as people like you and me, but they should also be celebrated. The moderator surprised ordinary workers and rewarded them for their efforts.
A man returns from a business trip and finds his house completely renovated. A traffic policewoman is surrounded by hundreds of cars at the intersection and celebrated with a sound of horns before she meets a Polish boy in the hall again whom she had taken in after the war and had not seen for years. A railroad worker who lies in bed after a long shift is filmed there with a hidden camera and the moderator from the Friedrichstadtpalast speaks to him that he should come over - he could stay in bed while doing so. He is then driven through Karl-Marx-Allee to the event in a motorized bed that is in front of his door . In between there were performances by popular artists. The show was staged with enormous effort. Everything was possible: Holes were drilled in the walls of the train driver's apartment to accommodate microphones and cameras. "

In a broadcast on April 16, 1966, there was even a public reconciliation between Walter Ulbricht and Max Fechner , the GDR's first justice minister, who was temporarily imprisoned. Because of the often emotional moments, Ponesky was nicknamed "Blonde Tear" and "Soul Hitchcock". Ponesky had previously hosted a similar radio show on Radio DDR since 1962. In 1965 he received the Art Prize of the GDR and the Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze .

He was married to his wife Karin. His son Olaf is a concert organizer in Berlin. Most recently he lived in Spain and since 2009 in Lückendorf .
