Hans-Georg Retzko

Hans-Georg Retzko (born November 27, 1928 in Hagen ; † November 19, 2014 in Darmstadt ) was a German civil engineer and professor for traffic planning and traffic engineering at the Technical University of Darmstadt .

Life

After graduating from high school in Lübbecke in 1949 , Retzko studied civil engineering at the Technical University in Hanover and graduated in 1955 with a degree in engineering. He then worked as a research assistant and research assistant at the chair and institute for transport, road and urban planning at the Technical University of Hanover. Retzko received his doctorate in 1961 and moved to the Nuremberg City Planning Office as a municipal building officer and then a consultant for civil engineering and urban planning at the Lower Saxony Ministry of Social Affairs in Hanover.

In 1966, he was appointed to the newly created full chair for traffic planning and traffic engineering in the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Technical University of Darmstadt and appointed director of the institute of the same name. From 1966 until his retirement in 1997, Retzko was head of the department of traffic planning and traffic engineering at the Technical University of Darmstadt.

Retzko was dean for the water and transport department three times and the driving force behind the merger of the department with the structural engineering department to form the civil engineering department. He has written more than 200 scientific publications. In 1980 Retzko founded the international planning office Retzko + Topp in Darmstadt with the civil engineer Hartmut Topp . In 1997, Retzko retired, but remained active at the chair and was particularly committed to academic exchange with Japan, Vietnam and China.

Hans-Georg Retzko died in November 2014. He was married and had two children.

  • 2011: Tongji Special Award for International Cooperation.
