Hans-Gunnar Liljenwall

Hans-Gunnar Liljenwall (born July 9, 1941 in Jönköping ) is a former Swedish modern pentathlete . He was the first person to be disqualified at the Olympics for a doping offense.

Liljenwall took in Tokyo at the Summer Games in 1964 in part. In the individual competition he reached eleventh place, with the Swedish team fourth. At the world championships in 1967 in his hometown Jönköping he won the team silver medal together with Björn Ferm and Hans Jacobson . Again with Ferm and Jacobson, he was third in the team classification at the 1968 Summer Games in Mexico City . The bronze medal was won them but soon again denied because Liljenwall be the first athlete ever in the IOC conducted doping tests had been transferred. He had been doped with 0.81 per mille of alcohol . According to his own statements, he drank “two beers” before the shooting to “calm his nerves.” At the 1972 Summer Games in Munich , Liljenwall finished fifth with the team.
