Bjorn Ferm

Björn Ferm (born August 10, 1944 in Jönköping ) is a former Swedish modern pentathlete . In 1968 he was the eighth and until 2007 the last Swede to win the individual ranking in the modern pentathlon at the Olympic Games.

Ferm became Junior World Champion in 1965. At the world championship in 1967 in his hometown Jönköping he won bronze behind András Balczó from Hungary and Stasys Šaparnis from the Soviet Union. With the team Ferm finished second behind the Hungarians.

At the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City, Balczó was 90 points behind Ferm after riding and could not fully make up for this deficit until the end. Ferm won with 4964 points, 11 points ahead. With the team, Ferm actually took third place. The team was disqualified after Hans-Gunnar Liljenvall was convicted of doping.

In 1969 Björn Ferm was again third at the World Cup. Balcsó won once more before Boris Onishchenko . After this world championship, Ferm reduced his sporting activities in order to finish his philosophy studies. 1972 at the Olympic Games Ferm appeared again; he took 6th place in the individual ranking and 5th place with the team.

Björn Ferm belonged to the Djurgårdens IF association in Stockholm.
