Hans-Hermann Braess

Hans-Hermann Braess (born October 15, 1936 in Kiel ) is a German engineer and automobile researcher.

Hans-Hermann Braess is honorary professor at the TU Munich (since 1992), TU Dresden and HTW Dresden (both since 1993), as well as a lecturer at the Bavarian Elite Academy (since 1999). He is the bearer of the Federal Cross of Merit. Hans-Hermann Braess is married and has one son.

biography

Hans-Hermann Braess was born as the first son of Paul Braess . His father was a professor for insurance economics at the University of Cologne. He studied mechanical engineering in Hanover from 1956 to 1962 , graduated as a graduate engineer and received his doctorate in 1971 as Dr.-Ing. During his doctorate he worked for a short time at Ford. From 1970 to 1980 he worked at Porsche , where from 1977 he headed the research department. From October 1980 until his retirement in October 1996 he was head of the scientific headquarters of BMW AG. In 1988 he was awarded an honorary doctorate (Dr.-Ing. E. h.) From the TU Darmstadt .

Hans-Hermann Braess is represented in numerous scientific committees, including a. in the Association of German Engineers (VDI), FAT (Research Association for Automotive Technology) of the Association of the German Automotive Industry (VDA) and FISITA. He played a key role in the European automobile research project PROMETHEUS (program for a European transport system with the highest efficiency and unmatched safety). Braess received the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon on November 23, 1999 , presented by the then Bavarian Prime Minister Edmund Stoiber.

Publications

He has published numerous scientific articles on all areas of the vehicle and is the author and editor of several books. The focus of his research is the driving dynamics of motor vehicles and driver-vehicle interaction.
