Hans-Jürgen "Specht" Bock (born January 22, 1939 in Hamburg ; † May 7, 2006 in Munich ) was a German jazz pianist .

Live and act

Bock had a classical piano training; since the mid-1950s he turned to jazz. He first played with the Central Hot Stompers and founded his own trio. In 1960 he became the pianist of the Old Merry Tale Jazz Band , to which he belonged until 1966 and whose hit records he was involved in. After moving to the Stuttgart area, he worked for the Jazz Society Stuttgart . He played in local formations, u. a. with the Stuttgart Dixieland All Stars , the Royal Garden Ramblers and the Jazzmo Dixie Gang , but also performed with American jazz stars such as Peanuts Hucko , Dick Cary , Wild Bill Davison and Roy Williams . He founded his trio Ragtime Specht Groove , which included musicians such as Jan Jankeje , with whom he successfully toured and recorded several albums since 1972. He also appeared in the ragtime duo Specht & Spatz and in the trio of Joe Viera and presented a solo album.

Bock worked from 1975 until his retirement in March 2004 as a lecturer at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Stuttgart . Since 1979 he has also been a lecturer for jazz piano courses in Burghausen .
