Bohumil Fišer (born October 22, 1943 in Brno ; † March 21, 2011 ibid) was a Czech cardiologist and politician of the Czech Social Democratic Party ( Česká strana sociálně democická ) .

Life

After attending school, Fišer studied medicine and physiology at the Masaryk University in Brno and worked as a physiologist after completing his studies. He later specialized in cardiology, myocardial infarction and diseases of the circulatory system such as arterial hypertension and initially became a lecturer at Masaryk University in 1989 , before accepting a professorship at the Medical Faculty of Masaryk University in 1995.

Fišer, who had been a member of Česká strana sociálně democická (ČSSD) since 1993, was appointed by Prime Minister Miloš Zeman as the successor to Ivan David as Minister of Health in his cabinet on February 9, 2000 and belonged to him until the end of Zeman's term of office on July 12 2002 on. Marie Součková was then successor as Minister of Health .

Subsequently, he was a member of the executive body of the World Health Organization (WHO) until 2005 and also resumed teaching as a professor at Masaryk University. Most recently he was director of the Institute of Physiology there.
