Hans-Jürgen Burchardt

Hans-Jürgen Burchardt (* 1962 in Hanover ) is a German economist and social scientist . Since 2005 he has been Professor of International and Inter-Society Relations at the University of Kassel .

His main research interests are North-South relations, resource, environmental and social regimes from an international perspective, democracy and social inequality, development theory and the like. - politics as well as Latin America .

academic career

Burchardt studied social and economic sciences at the universities of Freiburg , Havana and Bremen from 1988 to 1996 and graduated from both disciplines with a diploma. After receiving his doctorate in 1997, he worked as a research assistant and head of several research projects at the University of Hanover until 2000 , where he completed his habilitation in 2001 on the subject of international social policy. In addition to various consulting activities such as for the European Initiative for Democracy and Human Rights or the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research , he was a research project manager at the Institute for Ibero America Customer Hamburg (today: GIGA Institute for Latin America Studies ) between 2003 and 2005 . Between 2004 and 2005 he was a substitute professor for political science and head of the international "Political Management" course at the University of Bremen. From 2007 to 2015 he was the spokesman for the international doctoral program “Global Social Policies and Governance” (GSP & G), from 2009 to 2015 director of the International Center for Development and Decent Work (ICDD) and since 2017 he has been director of the CALAS - Maria Sibylla Merian Center for Advanced Latin American Studies .
