Hans-Jürgen Fip

Hans-Jürgen Fip OBE (born November 6, 1940 in Bad Rothenfelde ) is a German politician ( SPD ) and entrepreneur ( Heinrich Fip GmbH & Co. KG). He is an honorary citizen of the city of Osnabrück , whose mayor he was from 1991 to 2006.

Life

Fip is a trained mineral oil salesman. He is married and has three grown children. In addition to his political activities, he has taken on numerous honorary positions in the Osnabrück area. Among other things, he was first chairman of the sports club Ballsport e. V. Osnabrück - Eversburg , who elected him honorary chairman after leaving the board.

Political career

In 1972 Fip moved for the first time for the SPD in the city council of Osnabrück, whose parliamentary group he led from 1986 to 1991.

In 1991 the council members elected him honorary mayor. He became the successor of Ursula Flick (CDU). After the introduction of the single track , Fip ran in June 1997 as an SPD candidate for the direct election of the first full-time mayor of the city of Osnabrück and won with 51.1 percent of the votes. His term of office ended on October 31, 2006. His successor was Boris Pistorius (SPD).

On November 7th, 2006, Fip received the honorary citizenship certificate of the city of Osnabrück as part of his official farewell as the fifth mayor. In addition, the state of Lower Saxony awarded him the Lower Saxony Order of Merit, 1st class.

On December 1, 2006, the British Ambassador Sir Peter Torry presented him with the title of Honorary Officer in the Order of the British Empire on behalf of Queen Elizabeth II for his services to German-British relations and for supporting the British garrison in Osnabrück .
