Hans-Jürgen Rehm

Hans-Jürgen Rehm (born December 3, 1927 in Bützow ; † February 4, 2017 in Münster ) was a German microbiologist .

life and work

Rehm studied chemistry and biology at the University of Greifswald . His doctorate in 1952 on the formation of antibiotics was followed by his habilitation in 1955. In 1958 he moved to the Technical University of Munich . In 1970, Rehm accepted a position at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster , where he took over the Institute for Microbiology .

The focus of his scientific work was on researching the microbiological degradation of hydrocarbons . He was also appointed head of the Technical Biochemistry Working Committee at DECHEMA , which was the first to investigate the practical and economic potential of biotechnology . Rehm's publication list includes more than 300 scientific publications.

Awards

Rehm received numerous prizes and awards. He is a founding member of the European Federation of Biotechnology , an honorary member of DECHEMA and a member of the American Academy of Microbiology . In 1985 he received the DECHEMA medal .
