Hans-Joachim Bauer (born June 19, 1942 in Homberg (Efze) ) is a German land art artist; he lives and works in Homberg / Efze in the north Hessian Schwalm-Eder district .

Design concept

Hans-Joachim Bauer has been involved in Landart and Ars Natura projects since 1993 . His projects at home and abroad are about the visualization of civilizational processes. A focus of his work arises from the personally lived tension between euphoria and a sense of guilt in relation to the appropriation of nature by humans. Bauer understands appropriation in the dialectical sense as the shaping of human living conditions. He defines nature as a thesis, civilization as an antithesis and, as a synthesis, escape from earth and survival in space.

The appropriation of time, space, knowledge and domination is projected back into nature, into nature as part of the “global interior”, as Thomas Assheuer wrote in Die Zeit . Bauer uses natural materials (earth, water / ice, fire / light, air), plants, animals, people, graphic elements, writing and parts of the infrastructure (roads) as design elements. He uses GPS surveying technology, simple surveying instruments and agricultural machines such as tractors as tools .

Some works relate to the idea of social sculpture of Joseph Beuys .
