Hans-Joachim Scheitzbach

Hans-Joachim Scheitzbach (born October 29, 1939 in Leipzig ) is a German cellist .

Life

Scheitzbach has been playing the cello since he was eleven. He studied at the "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" University of Music and Theater in Leipzig . He was hired in 1960 for the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra . At the same time he was a member of the Leipzig String Quartet for several years. In 1967 he became principal cellist at the Sächsische Staatskapelle , but one year later he moved to the Komische Oper Berlin in the same position . In 1980 he received the GDR Art Prize .

Scheitzbach has lived in Woltersdorf (near Berlin) since 1968 . He is married and has two children.

Services

Scheitzbach became known for interpreting contemporary compositions. One of the highlights of his solo career was the performances of two concerts for violoncello and orchestra by Krzysztof Penderecki under the direction of the composer. Scheitzbach was involved in many radio and record recordings.

As a chamber musician he mainly has classical and late romantic works in small ensembles in his repertoire.

Since 1969 he has organized chamber music and serenade concerts in Berlin-Brandenburg, initially through the Kulturbund . In spring 2012 he celebrated his 250th public chamber concert in his home town of Woltersdorf.
