Hans-Karl Paetzold (born January 2, 1916 , † November 4, 2002 in Cologne ) was a German geophysicist and director of the Institute for Geophysics and Meteorology at the University of Cologne.

Life

Hans-Karl Paetzold completed his habilitation in 1954 at the Technical University of Munich and was a scientist at the Max Planck Institute for Physics of the Stratosphere in Weissenau until 1961 . After the death of Hellmut Berg , the head of the Meteorological Institute at the University of Cologne, he was appointed full professor in Cologne and was given the license to teach geophysics and meteorology.

As early as 1971, Hans-Karl Paetzold pointed out the threat to the ozone layer from high-flying civilian supersonic aircraft .
