Hans-Klaus Zinser

Hans-Klaus Zinser (born August 25, 1912 in Hansdorf (Posen), † December 26, 1997 in Cologne ) was a German gynecologist and pioneer in the field of cytodiagnostics .

In 1933, during his studies, Zinser became a member of the Arminia fraternity in the Burgkeller . He received his license to practice medicine in 1938 and did his doctorate in the same year at the University of Jena . Military service interrupted his professional career. In 1943 he returned to the University Women's Clinic in Jena, where he became senior physician with Gustav Döderlein in 1947 . After his habilitation in 1948 he was appointed private lecturer. From 1952 to 1955 he was director of the Greifswald University Women's Clinic .

In 1956 he moved to the Federal Republic and became head of the gynecological department of the Evangelical Hospital Weyertal in Cologne. There he founded the cytological laboratory in 1957. When the International Academy for Cytology was founded in Brussels in the same year, Zinser was elected its first chairman.

In 1977 he retired as chief physician, but remained in charge of the cytological laboratory for several years. He died in 1997 at the age of 85 and was buried in the Melaten cemetery in Cologne (lit. V).
