Hans-Martin Schmidt (born August 4, 1929 in Barmen ) is a German lawyer , publisher , founder and patron .

Life

Hans-Martin Schmidt studied law in Mainz and Freiburg and received his doctorate in 1955 under Armin Spitaler in Cologne. In 1958 he started as a lecturer at the publishing house Dr. Otto Schmidt , whose managing director he became in 1970 and which he chaired until 1994. Hans-Martin Schmidt lives in Cologne and has three children and seven grandchildren.

Honorary positions and patronage

Schmidt was chairman a. a. of the Association of Publishers and Bookstores NRW (1971–1981), the Statute and Legal Committee of the Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels (1989–2003), the Evangelical Academic Association in Germany (1974–1980) and the Working Group of Legal and Political Science Publishers (1980– 1992). In 1986 he founded the “Theology and Nature” foundation, in 1989 the “Apple Tree Evolution Fund” (later renamed “Apple Tree Foundation - Learning Project for Co-Evolution and Integration”), in 1992 the “Music and Evolution” foundation (later renamed “Foundation New music in dialogue ”). In 1994 he donated the "HMS Creativity Prize". Since he left the active publishing business (1994), the commitment to the Apfelbaum Foundation has moved into the focus of his activities. Through this foundation he initiated publications, prizes and symposia dedicated to the topics of sustainability , integration and coevolution .
