Hans-Peter Arens (born October 23, 1944 ; † March 22, 2019 ) was a German showman .

Life

In 1967, after working in his parents' company, Arens started his own business as a showman in Dortmund with various rides. The grandparents already had a gingerbread bakery in the north of this city.

Here he was co-organizer of the nationally known Christmas market as well as a consultant for major local events such as public viewings at football championships and city festivals. In addition, he was represented with his rides at public festivals such as the Hamburg Cathedral , the Cranger Kirmes or the Cannstatter Wasen .

Since 1979 he has been the chairman of the show association Rote Erde e. V. in Dortmund, one of the oldest showman interest groups in Germany. He was Vice President since 1993 and President of the Federal Association of German Showmen and Market Traders from 2003 to 2017 and again from 2019 . He was committed to a digital archive of the Volksfest cultural asset , with which a German showman archive should be created as a scientific reference work for the Volksfest cultural asset.

Arens got involved in social projects of the Dortmunder Arbeiterwohlfahrt (AWO) and Shanti Leprahilfe Dortmund . Since 1982 he has supported the Reinoldikirche's social fundraising campaigns . The Lord Mayor of Dortmund, Ullrich Sierau, praised Arens in an obituary as a “true local patriot and popular ambassador for our city”. Arens was married to Heidi, nee Laffontien, who also comes from a traditional showman family, since 1967; there are two sons from the marriage.
