Hans-Werner Steckhan

Hans-Werner Steckhan (* July 17, 1937 ; † May 11, 2017 ) was a German lawyer and judge at the Federal Labor Court .

Live and act

Steckhan studied from 1957 jurisprudence at the universities of Frankfurt and Erlangen . In 1961 he passed his first state examination in law and then began his legal clerkship. At the same time, Steckhan worked as a research assistant at the University of Erlangen. There he was in 1965 with the work of the internal company Dr. iur. PhD. A year later he passed his second state examination. As a result, he continued to work as a research assistant at the University of Erlangen, until he joined the higher justice service of the Free State of Bavaria in 1974 . From May 1974 he was appointed to the labor court in Erlangen and from 1979 to 1980 he was seconded to the regional labor courts in Munich and Nuremberg . In 1980 Steckhan was elected judge at the Federal Labor Court. He took office on November 1, 1980 and was assigned to the Seventh Senate. There he shaped the case law for decades, especially on individual labor law, and later on the right of fixed-term employment contracts under the works constitution. In 1992 Steckhan was appointed honorary professor by the University of Erlangen. At the end of July 2002 he retired and then worked as of counsel in a Schlierseer law firm.
