Hans-Wilhelm Steinfeld (born March 29, 1951 in Bergen ) is a Norwegian journalist and historian . In 1990 he received the Cappelenprisen literature prize .

Life

He has worked for the Norwegian National Broadcasting Corporation (NRK) since 1976 , where he made it to Deputy Editor-in-Chief from 1996 to 1998 and from 1998 to 2000 as Head of Dagsrevyen (Norwegian 'Tagesschau'). As a journalist, he was awarded the Narvesen Prize in 1990 and the Peer Gynt Statuette in 1991.

Due to his preferences, he specialized in Russia . Among other things, he was the foreign correspondent in Moscow four times for several years each time . He is best known for his journalistic work in the Soviet Union and Russia and for his interviews with Gorbachev , Yeltsin and Ryzhkov during the Soviet collapse.

Steinfeld is particularly controversial in Poland . In January 2005 he published the article " Hatred of Jews , the dark side of Polish history" in the daily Aftenposten . This was in response to a protest by the Polish ambassador to Norway, which had previously been published in the same newspaper and was directed against Steinfeld's statements about "Polish Nazis and anti-Semites in Lviv ", which had previously been made in a Norwegian portal (NRK) .

In his article, which he later expanded and supplemented with numerous sources, placed in the portal of the NRK, Steinfeld claims, among other things, that "Polish Nazis" were active in Lemberg, and General Józef Piłsudski , the actual Polish head of state from 1926 to 1935, was a "fascist dictator and anti-Semite".
