Hans-Wilhelm Windhorst

Hans-Wilhelm Windhorst (born May 20, 1944 in Oppenwehe ) is a German agricultural geographer and university professor .

Life

Windhorst studied geography, English philology and pedagogy for teaching at secondary schools at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster from 1963 to 1969 . After taking the first state examination there in 1969, he also received his doctorate there in the same year. In 1971 he passed the second state examination. He then went to the then Vechta University of Education as a university professor. In 1977 he received his habilitation in Osnabrück on agriculture in South Oldenburg.

In 1982 he was appointed professor for economic and social geography at the Vechta department at the University of Osnabrück . This department has now been converted to Vechta University of Applied Sciences . Since 1990 Windhorst has held a professorship for applied economic geography / structural research there.

Since 1986, Windhorst was head of the research group “Regional structural research in intensive agricultural areas” in Vechta, which was incorporated into the Institute for structural research and planning in intensive agricultural areas (ISPA) at Vechta University of Applied Sciences, which he had been managing director since 1990. On April 1, 2009, Windhorst handed over management to Martina Flath, who was elected by the Institute Council as the new director for the period from April 2009 to March 2011. Windhorst resigned from official service on September 30, 2009. In October 2009 Christine Tamásy took over the successor of the “Comparative Structural Research” working group at ISPA.

Since 1999, Windhorst has also been Scientific Director of the Lower Saxony Competence Center for the Food Industry (NieKE) and Liaison Lecturer for the German Research Foundation (DFG).

Further memberships and functions

Windhorst is a member of the " Geographical Commission of Westphalia ", a member of the scientific advisory board of the German Institute for Food Technology eV , a board member of the "German Association for Poultry Science eV" (German group of the "World's Poultry Science Association", WPSA), and since 2007 "Statistical Analyst "of the" International Egg Commission "(IEC, London). Until 2017 he was a member of the supervisory board of Union Agricole Holding , Pinneberg.
