Hans Bach (agricultural scientist)

Hans Bach (born May 7, 1911 in Linz ; † February 3, 2002 in Schlierbach , Upper Austria ) was an Austrian agricultural scientist, sociologist, university professor and rector of the University of Linz .

Life

Hans Bach studied history and economics at the University of Vienna and then moved to the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna . In 1927 he joined the Hitler Youth , in 1931 the SA and 1932 the NSDAP . Because of his participation in the July coup of 1934, Bach was arrested, expelled from the university and expatriated from Austria. He went to Bonn and continued his agricultural studies there, where he graduated as a qualified farmer. In 1936 he received his doctorate as Dr. summa cum laude at the University of Heidelberg . He then worked there as a university assistant. After the annexation of Austria , he was called back to Austria by the Minister of Agriculture Anton Reinthaller and became the head of the farm school of the Reichsnährstand of the rural farming community of Südmark. In 1941 he was accepted into the Reich Chamber of Literature.

After the war ended in 1945 and denazification, Bach was employed by the Carinthian Chamber of Agriculture and appointed to his cabinet by Eduard Hartmann from 1959 to 1964. In 1965, Bach completed his habilitation under Walter Heinrich at the University of World Trade in Vienna.

In 1969, Bach became a university professor for agricultural policy and farm management at the University of Linz , where he was rector from 1972 to 1974. He positioned himself as a representative of ecologically sustainable small-scale agriculture and spoke out against the industrialization of agriculture.
