Hans August Hugo Beggerow (born September 30, 1874 in Swinoujscie ; † 1942 ) was a German philosopher, scientist and military officer who was known for his patented Zeppelin antenna and who was involved in the introduction of broadcasting in Germany.

Life

He was the son of the captain and company commander of the 14th Infantry Regiment, Richard Beggerow, and his wife Katharina nee Emsmann. After attending the Schillergymnasium in Stettin, he studied at the universities in Berlin and Freiburg im Breisgau, where he was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD. He then worked in various practical professions, including in New York . From 1901 to 1919 Hans Beggerow worked in the scientific and technical department for radio telegraphs in the German Reichsmarineamt and retired as admiralty councilor. He then worked as a private scholar in Göttingen . He specialized in epistemology and philosophy and welcomed National Socialism early on .

Among other things, he developed a long-wire antenna called the Zeppelin antenna , in which a ribbon cable with a length of λ / 4 was used for impedance matching . The ribbon cable served not only as an impedance transformer, but also as a counterweight, so that a Zeppelin antenna could be operated like a symmetrical antenna without grounding. The antenna received its name from its first use in the 1920s on flight ships such as the Zeppelin . Hans Beggerow had already submitted the corresponding patent in 1909.
