Hans Bernlöhr (born July 18, 1907 in Stuttgart ; † June 25, 1991 there ) was a German boxer and participant in the 1932 Olympic Games .

Career

amateur

Hans Bernlöhr learned boxing at VfK Germania 1890 Stuttgart and later moved to PSV Stuttgart .

Bernlöhr was German middleweight champion (up to 75 kg) from 1931 to 1934. In 1932 he took part in the Olympic Games in Los Angeles . Here he won in the round of 16 against Albert Lowe from New Zealand before losing in the quarterfinals to the eventual bronze medalist Roger Michelot from France .

At the elimination tournament for the European Championships in 1934, Bernlöhr was defeated so that he could not take part in these. Then he was advised to box in the next higher weight class. Bernlöhr refused this, however, which is why he was no longer used and his career ended for the time being. According to contemporary witnesses, Bernlöhr's premature retirement was also related to his political views.

professional

From 1947, Bernlöhr, now 39 years old, entered the ring as a professional 16 times. He won ten fights (4 KOs) and lost five by 1939. A fight against Jupp Besselmann ended in a draw.
