Hans Bimler

Hans Bimler (born January 27, 1860 in Godullahütte ; † October 2, 1929 in Breslau ) was a German drawing teacher, artist and collector of antiques.

Life

Bimler attended the Royal Gymnasium in Bytom in Upper Silesia . Despite his artistic talent, he dropped out of school because of the death of his father. As an artist, he was actually self-taught. That is why he worked as a teacher at elementary schools in the Opole area , in Groß Döbern , Czarnowanz , Chrosczütz and then from 1883 for many years in Alt-Schalkowitz . After attending the Royal Academy of Arts and Crafts in Breslau and passing the drawing teacher examination in 1887, Bimler worked as a drawing teacher at the municipal Catholic high school in Beuthen, where he taught hand drawing from 1899 to 1920.

In addition to his teaching and artistic activities, Bimler was an art collector and researcher. With the support of his son Kurt Bimler (1883–1951) he directed the Upper Silesian State Museum in Beuthen from 1910 to 1919 . Bimler became known through the design of honorary certificates as well as flower and landscape sketches. In 1920 he presented his oil paintings "Castle Ruins in Chudow bei Mondbeleutung" and "Winter Landscape" at the large Upper Silesian exhibition in Breslau. His landscape drawings of Upper Silesia from the areas of Bytom , Opole, Pless , the Beskids and the pilgrimage site of Wartha are considered unique .

The Oberschlesisches Landesmuseum in Ratingen exhibited a large collection of his works in 1989. It has an extensive collection of sketches and studies, including almost 100 pencil and pen drawings.
