Hans Bruno Schneider

Hans Bruno Schneider (born December 22, 1931 in Vienna ; † January 15, 1997 ibid) was an Austrian Cistercian and historian .

Life

He grew up in Vienna- Hernals and was dressed in the Cistercian monastery in Zwettl on September 6, 1952 . After the novitiate he studied in Rome from 1953 to 1959 , was ordained a priest on July 21, 1957 and completed his studies with a doctorate. From 1959 to 1967 he worked as the prefect of the boys' choir in Zwettl, and also headed the educational center there from 1968 to 1976. In 1976 he resigned from the Cistercian order and initially worked for the Austrian Federal Publishing House . From 1977 to 1991 he was editor-in-chief of the Brandaus magazine on behalf of the regional fire brigade command , and from 1982 increasingly worked as a fire brigade historian. In addition to the editorial work, he developed extensive lectures on the subject of fire services.

Since his student days in Rome, Schneider showed a keen interest in the history of the Cistercian order in Austria. First publications in this area followed in the 1960s; in 1991 his activity as a Cistercian explorer began again. In scientific collaboration with the later Abbot General of the Order Polykarp Zakar , he published editions and scientific articles in the Analecta Cisterciensia . His plans to write a history of the Austrian Cistercian monasteries were interrupted in 1995 by a cancer diagnosis. He died in 1997 as a result of this disease and was buried in the Dornbacher Friedhof .
