Hans Christian "HC" Markert (born October 1, 1968 in Bad Oeynhausen ) is a German politician ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ). In the state elections in North Rhine-Westphalia in 2010, he was elected member of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia via the state list of the Greens. As a direct candidate in the state electoral district of Rhein-Kreis Neuss I , he got 8.6% of the first votes. Compared to the state election in 2005, the Greens in Neuss increased their share of second votes by 7% to 12.1%. In the state election on May 14, 2017, Hans Christian Markert ran again as a direct candidate in constituency 45 (Dormagen, Rommerskirchen and Grevenbroich). However, he was not elected and could not move into the state parliament again via the state list.

Nonetheless, Hans Christian Markert continues his political work both at the local level and across the region. Under the motto "Water is our future" he is committed as an environmental politician in an advisory capacity and with regular lectures for better protection of our most important food.

Life

Markert grew up in the Lippe area . He studied Protestant theology and law at Bielefeld University . As a lawyer, he became the head of the parliamentary department in the staff of Bärbel Höhn in the North Rhine-Westphalian Ministry of the Environment , where he was head of the department for sustainability strategies and environmental education until his election to the state parliament. After the election defeat in 2017 and the loss of his seat in the state parliament, Markert initially returned to his old position in the Ministry for the Environment and Nature Conservation, Agriculture and Consumer Protection of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.

In the spring of 2018 he moved to the headquarters of the construction and real estate operations of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, where he is responsible for the sustainability management of the entire operation. As part of a teaching assignment at the Beuth University of Applied Sciences in Berlin, Hans Christian Markert is currently also working on the sustainability assessment of existing properties.

Markert has been active with the Greens since 1984. In the 1990s he co-founded the Green Youth, the first green university group in Bielefeld and the Ostwestfalen-Lippe district association of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen. Since his election to the state parliament, Hans Christian Markert has been the spokesman for his parliamentary group for environmental, consumer protection and nuclear policy. As an environmental politician, he is committed to v. a. for the protection of the resource water. From 2013 to 2015 he was chairman of the inquiry commission he initiated for the North Rhine-Westphalian state parliament on the “future of the chemical industry in North Rhine-Westphalia with regard to sustainable raw material bases, products and production processes”. Under his leadership, the commission presented a 450-page final report with 58 specific options for action, which was passed unanimously in the state parliament. As a member of the district assembly of the Rhein-Kreis Neuss, he is also the environmental and energy policy spokesman for the district parliamentary group and, since 2014, he has also been chairman of the environmental and planning committee of the Rhein-Kreis Neuss. Until autumn 2010, Markert was one of the two spokespersons for the LAG Energie der Grünen NRW for several years.

On September 13, 2015, Markert stood for election as district administrator of the Rhine district of Neuss in North Rhine-Westphalia, but was subject to the incumbent Hans-Jürgen Petrauschke (CDU). He was set up as a so-called "citizen district administrator" by a five-man alliance consisting of the SPD, Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen, Die Linke, Piraten and Die Aktive.
