Years of teaching and study

Hans-Dieter Zingraff was born in Karlsruhe in 1947 as the son of an electrotechnical audit firm and, according to his parents' wishes, was to become an engineer. However, Zingraff showed an early interest in artistic activities. This manifested his interest in trompe-l'oeil , the astonishment caused by the illusion of the eye thanks to the illusion of space.

Spain

In 1972 he moved to Dénia , Alicante Province , Spain . In the first Spain-years a large number was surrealistic , socially critical works, in part, to Dada - collages reminiscent. He set realistically painted cutouts against purely abstract color, a principle that he later refined in his architectural still lifes using mixed collage techniques. In 1984 for the first time glued-in chipboard and wooden strips turned the pictures into reliefs , while the reverse, apparently glued-in photographic pieces were actually painted.

The 1980s

Between 1983 and 1985, Zingraff took a decisive step into the current Spanish art scene. Although he was an absolute newcomer there, the jury of the 50th Autumn Salon (Salon de Otoño, Asociación Española de Pintores y Escultores) in Madrid in 1983 decided to allow Zingraff's painting. In the mid-1980s, Zingraff felt increasingly constrained by his messages, which were clearly socially critical up to that point. After a phase of soft lines and shapes, he returned to straight lines.

Zingraff's constructivism

Until about 1996, Zingraff addressed the abolition of spatial continuum and visual ambiguity in a radically abstract way. The artist succeeded in taking a decisive step in his stylistic development in 1999. As a logical consequence, he actually took his compositions out of the plane and finally out of the conventional image format. Since then, depth, volume and lighting are no longer just painted illusions, but rather tangible reality. Parts of the picture become independent. Wall and room are included in the works, lamps on the back provide real light and real shadow. Despite his many exhibitions, Zingraff continuously creates new works. In recent years his works have been shown in New York, Lima (Peru), Madrid, Berlin, Karlsruhe and Cairo, among others.
