The Fédération Internationale des Mouvements Catholiques d'Action Paroissale (Fimcap) is an international umbrella organization of Catholic youth organizations. Fimcap brings together 35 member associations in 33 countries in Europe, Africa, Asia and South America worldwide. It was founded in 1962 and is recognized by the Pontifical Council for the Laity as an international Catholic organization.

history

In 1959, French, Belgian and Dutch Catholic youth organizations worked in Lucerne for the first time on the project of an international union. The first conference of delegates took place in Germany in 1960 as part of the World Eucharistic Congress in Munich. In October 1961 it was founded by eleven associations and at Easter 1962 the Fimcap was formally established. After its recognition in 1976 by the Pontifical Council for the Laity, the Fimcap is an "international Catholic organization" and thus a member of the Conference of the Council.

structure

The highest decision-making body is the World Assembly ( General Assembly ), which consists of delegations from all member associations. It meets every three years in different places. The association is managed by the intercontinental presidium ("intercontinental presidium"), which consists of a female and a male president (if no candidates are available for one gender, the positions can also be filled by two men or two women), a praeses and consists of a Secretary General. The Intercontinental Bureau , which is composed of the Presidium and representatives of the continental associations, meets between the world assemblies.

At the continental level, the associations come together to form continental conferences. The Presidents of the Continental Conferences are members of the Intercontinental Bureau as Fimcap Vice Presidents after confirmation by the World Assembly . Continents without a continental conference send delegates without vice-presidential status to the Intercontinental Bureau .

The general secretariat is located in Antwerp , Belgium. Fimcap has been recognized as an international NGO in Belgium since 2006.

Working languages are English, French and Spanish. The association magazine Link appears four times a year in these languages .

In addition to its membership in the Conference of the Pontifical Council for the Laity, Fimcap is a member of the European Youth Forum .

activities

Every three years Fimcap organizes the World Camp , an international youth camp. At the European level there are exchange events between individual groups of the member associations (roundabouts) , European group leader training (Eurocourse) and Euroclass , a ten-month international youth leader training course.

There are partnerships between individual associations. On November 20th, Fimcap Day will take place in all member associations , on which the international dimension of Catholic youth association work will be experienced on site.
