The European Youth Forum (YFJ, from the French Youth Forum Jeunesse , English: European Youth Forum ) is the platform for national youth representatives and international NGO youth organizations in Europe. The aims and tasks of the European Youth Forum is representation work on behalf of all European young people. It is officially recognized by the European Union , the Council of Europe and the United Nations
The European Youth Forum works mainly in the field of European youth policy, but also deals with global issues and is also networked outside of Europe. The work is based on the member organizations and their positions and is not limited to individual policy areas, as the topic of youth is seen as a cross-cutting issue. The issues of equality and sustainability are an essential part of the YFJ policy.
The European Youth Forum currently consists of 99 member organizations, 40 national interest groups, and 49 independent international youth organizations.
For Germany the German National Committee for International Youth Work (DNK), for Austria the Austrian Children and Youth Representation (ÖJV) and for Switzerland the Swiss Working Group of Youth Associations (SAJV) as national interest groups in the European Youth Forum.
history
The YFJ was founded in 1996 and is the successor organization of several European youth associations such as the Youth Forum of the European Union (YFEU) , some of which go back to the 1960s.
Funding comes from the European Commission and the Council of Europe .
Task and work
According to its own statements, the task of the European Youth Forum is "to be the voice of the young people of Europe. A Europe in which young people are equal citizens and are encouraged and supported to develop their potential as global citizens." ("To be the voice of young people in Europe, where young people are equal citizens and are encouraged and supported to achieve their fullest potential as global citizens.")
The YFJ works independently, democratically and represents youth representatives and international youth organizations from all over Europe. It works to strengthen and promote young people so that they can get involved in a democratic society and improve their lives. Participation and emancipation should be promoted through the representation work towards the European institutions. The main goals are:
- Strengthening the participation of young people and youth organizations in society and democracy
- Participation and influencing of the legislation of the European Union in the interests of young people
- Promotion of the idea of youth policy as a cross-cutting issue in all fields of legislation
- Promotion of youth organizations that support the participation and participation of young people
- Advocate the international exchange of ideas, experiences, understanding and equality
- Upholding values such as intercultural understanding, democracy, respect, diversity, human rights, active participation and solidarity
- Support for youth work worldwide
An initiative of the European Youth Forum is the award of the European Youth Capital award .
The European Youth Forum has the task of nominating 20 young people from its member organizations, 13 representatives from the international youth associations (INGYOs) and seven representatives from national youth organizations for the Advisory Council on Youth of the Council of Europe every two years . These are usually democratically elected to the member organizations at their Council of Members (COMEM) in Brussels in spring .
